NATAVAN is a modern Azerbaijani fashion brand that takes its inspiration from century-old traditions of sewing, garment-making, treating and adorning fabrics with hand-stamped ornaments. 

Established by Natavan Aliyeva in 2011, the brand’s name is not only the homonym of its founder’s first name, but also the name of the famous Azerbaijani poet of the 19th century, Natavan Khurshidbanu.

Natavan Aliyeva is a professionally trained designer who has studied in the school of a famous Russian couturier Vyacheslav Zaytsev, completed the course with stellar grades and was invited to Central Saint Martin’s College in London based on her merit.

 

Natavan is an avid collector of traditional Azerbaijani clothing with her collection counting in excess of 1000 pieces, which have all been meticulously put together through traveling to remote towns and settlements and purchasing authentic items from locals.

 

This collecting hobby has certainly allowed Natavan to study traditional clothing in detail, to get an additional appreciation for the know-how passed down for centuries, and to thrive as a fashion designer producing unique Azerbaijani clothing pieces.

The NATAVAN brand today is a reflection of Natavan Aliyeva’s love for fashion, crafts and authenticity, all of which lie at the heart of every single one of her creations. It is a combination of the finest fabrics, such as silk, cotton, crepe satin and the purest cotton gauze, with the very laborious techniques of “kelaghayi” fabric treatment and hand-stamping, with vivid colours, and unique added patterns.

 

All of that comes with a modern concept and cut, which allows the piece to become a premium-quality exclusive timeless addition to the wardrobe. These items can be effortlessly paired with a pair of trousers, a skirt or a dress, elevating every look.
